Well, if truth be told it was a perfect weekend! Notwithstanding Friday which saw us severely gutted, yet again, about the lack of exchange of contracts on the house. We had a free babysitter in the guise of grandma so made our excuses and drowned our sorrows over a steak and copious amounts of red wine.
But Saturday and Sunday, well we keep harping on about how amazing a weekend it was so had to get on here and blog about it! MrMoo turned 7 on Saturday and we woke to blue skies and 2 excited children jumping on our bed. He got a fantastic haul of presents, none of which he was expecting; when he spied the DS we got him he promptly declared "you're crazy"!
My parents then came for more present opening. We pottered around the garden in the sun, drank coffee and played with some of the new toys. Then wandered down to the beach where the kids spent a years worth of 2p coins in the amusement arcade. Chips on the beach for lunch followed by ice-creams, and the sun was still shining.
And then the main event, his birthday party! I don't think many 7 year olds chose the local Indian restaurant as a party venue, but we weren't complaining! He had half a dozen friends over for a "cinema" afternoon (shut the curtains, arrange the sofas around the TV and provide bucket loads of popcorn) although they got itchy feet and ended up running around the garden and demolishing the climbing frame instead. We met some of the kids parents (all good friends of ours) in the Indian and whilst most of the kids chose chicken nuggets and chips, they all tried chicken tikka and ate their way through a ton of naan breads and popadoms. We, in the meantime, took advantage of the restaurant's BYOB status and sunk copious amounts of white wine.
Then MrMoo played a blinder. He managed to convince his friends parents that we'd invited them for a sleepover, even though we had no knowledge of this. Cue 3 excited kids staying up til all hours - but at least the film got watched finally! We tucked into a Chinese takeaway in the other room and fell into bed, tired but happy.
Sunday was mad. After pancakes for breakfast, The Husband and I popped out to buy a caravan. Like you do. We've decided the house we're buying isn't in a fit state to be lived in, and summer holiday prices in our seaside town mean we can't afford to stay in local accommodation. So we purchased a cheap and cheerful van, and were home in time to watch a blinding Grand Prix. Good old grandma, she then took the kids swimming while we sat in the garden and drank beer in the sun. Steak and ale pie for dinner just topped it off wonderfully!
Sadly we still haven't exchanged on our house though. After an eight month long saga, we are now in a chain of 5 with the top and bottom end literally fighting over dates. It's been a catalogue of disasters, you honestly couldn't make it up if you tried. We may exchange tomorrow with a completion date of Friday week (yes, 9 days away and no removal van or annual leave booked, let alone a single box packed!) or it may be the end of the month. Watch this space folks...and then the blogging about renovating a house whilst living in the driveway starts!
I'll leave you with this wonderful song, kept going round and round in my head all weekend...
Perfect Day
Been wondering where you've been!! Missed your foody posts! Fingers crossed that your house sale/purchase goes through OK.
