Food.

We love food. Particularly hot food, chillified food, spicy food. A friend recomended a recipe recently and Husband cooked a variation of it last night; was so good that I have to share. Please excuse the rough amounts, we don't do weights and measurements in this house, except for baking; much better to use "some" or "a lot of"!

Thai Curry, his version.

In a small food processor, blitz a couple of fresh chillies, few cloves of garlic, 1 tsp ground cumin, 2 tsp ground coriander, juice of 1 lime and 1 lemon, good shake of nam pla (fish sauce, easily found in most supermarkets) and an onion. Meanwhile brown your meat (we used chicken thighs with skin and bone, these add to the flavour - but you can use steak, pork, prawns, fish etc) in a little oil. Add the curry paste and a tin of coconut milk to the pan and cook til done. That's it, easy-peasy but was awesome.

He served it with a sliced savoy cabbage that was spritzed (technical term yunno) with frylight and roasted in a hot oven til crispy, and plain boiled rice. Am still salivating at the memory of it. I have a habit of taking photos of food but was so busy noshing this that I forgot, great excuse to make it again. Enjoy please folks!

Boys...

I was extremely proud of Mr Moo today. Not only did he get an excellent report from school (above average for everything and lovely comments from the Head) but I got the chance to watch his swimming lesson for once and was seriously impressed at his progress and confidence. A couple of months ago he was asking to stop lessons, mainly because he didn't like the instructor, but we changed to a different one and he is thriving under her tuition. He is now diving confidently under the water to rescue objects (a few months ago he would just stand still and pick them up with his feet) and beats all the other kids in swimming unaided across the pool, every time.

He did make his dad laugh in the changing room though; apparently there were a couple of teenage boys larking about and splashing everyone. My darling not-quite-six year old squared up to them and threatened to do the same to them if they didn't stop - apparently they scarpered pretty quickly!

Kids eh!

My children are funny creatures. Little Legs is just 3, and threw the biggest paddy yesterday - for being asked to get down from the dinner table and go on an Easter egg hunt in the garden! To be fair it's the first one she remembers, and getting down early from the table in our house generally only happens when someone has been naughty. But she worked herself up into such a strop that even the offer of unlimited chocolate couldn't calm her down. Husband had to take her hand and lead her to the nearest piece of chocolate to appease her, then of course there was no stopping her. We're not sure if this was a great demonstration of a toddler trait, a female thing, or because she takes after her pig-headed mother. She's stuffed either which way though!

Time.

The clocks went back this weekend. Or forwards, I never remember which. We were very prepared this time and spent part of the morning going round changing all the household timepieces around, then spent a lovely day at my parents, with a roast lunch and leaving the kids to run riot in the garden while we relaxed with a glass of wine. Being F1 fans, we dutifully turned the telly on in the afternoon to watch the "extended highlights" (seeing as Bernie in his wisdom has decreed that mere skint mortals like ourselves who can't justify £60 a month just to watch a little bit of live motor racing can only watch the best bits *rollseyes*) only to find that we'd missed the first hour as the one thing I'd forgotten to change was my watch. Calling myself a muppet for the second time in a week, getting clumsy in my old age.

It's the weekend!

What a gorgeous day today! Shame it's a normal work day, but I had great plans to at least spend my lunch break sitting in the garden to make the most of the weather - I work from home and normally spend it doing housework but the sun called today. Well, at least it did until I heard an almighty racket coming from the washing machine; rushed down 2 flights of stairs to find the flipping door had come off mid-cycle. So. today's lunch break was spent sat on the (closed) loo with my foot against the washing machine door to stop the water coming out, until the entire cycle had finished. And I didn't even have the foresight to take my phone, laptop or a book in with me. What a muppet.

So, it's Friday evening and some wine is definitely in order. Just to recover from that ordeal of course;) The husband is out at a friends, the rugrats are asleep and I have total control of the remote as well as a bottle of cava. Bliss.

More stuff.

OK, so it's only a few hours ago that I set my blog up and I already feel the need to update it. Maybe because I had a relatively large amount of time to myself yesterday and had a lot of things to think through. The downside is that the (rare) time off was spent in a chemotherapy unit waiting to have some tests done. On the positive side I had a lovely moment when reading a magazine there and I came across an article about my friend Cara who is a very successful mumpreneur, so proud of you girl! The crowning moment of the day though had to go when I plucked up the courage to look at the other patients around me and realised that I was sitting next to a prisoner handcuffed to an officer, shouting very loudly to anyone who would listen about his human rights! I escaped from the hospital in one piece, with an urgent referral and more appointments planned, surely a glass or two of plonk was necessary to recover from today;)

And so the blogging starts.

And so the blogging starts. Been meaning to do this for a long time, more as a diary than for any commercial reasons or wanting the world to read about me. I'm S, married to R and we have 2 small children (Mr Moo and Little Legs) and I'm a chilli freak lover - although that may just be an understatement! Bear with me whilst I play about with blogging, share some recipes, add some stuff about my life and maybe a photo or two...
